Scams through PUPS & Google Checkout

by Forum Member » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:48 pm

It appears that scammers are spoofing messages with email addresses at Professional United Pet Sitters.

They send the message as if it is coming from a PUPS email address, or through a Google Checkout address. This makes the request look more authentic - like it came from a client viewing your listing in the PUPS directory.

Clients CANNOT contact you through the PUPS directory in any way. Clients can only contact you directly, using the email or website information you provide on your listing. If a pet sitting request appears to be from us/Google Checkout/our servers, then it is a scam.

Also if you ever click 'reply' on a pet sitting request email and the reply-to listed is different than an email address provided within the message itself, then be very suspicious. In this case it is best to reply to BOTH addresses - so if the email is being spoofed, the real owner of the reply-address is alerted.

We have implemented some new security measures. Please see the Important Notices forum for more information.
