Home for sale/home for rent scam

This is not a pet sitting scam, but still is one that pet sitters should be aware of. This morning one of my friends told me that her parents were being used for an apartment rental scam. In this case, a scammer found their information about their "house for sale" on craigslist. The scamme...

As for what will happen... The scammer will send you a check/money order/similar for more than he owes. He will ask you to cash it and send the extra to another party - such as "his groomer" or whatever - and give you an address to mail it to. Up to a month later the original check will re...

When you post these, if you are sure it's a scam and they don't provide a contact email address in the message itself, you can post the email address of the "from" here also. Some people search for that when they get the same suspicious method, so it's easier for them to find your post.

It's only a scam if they want to send you an overpayment and have you pay the extra to somewhere else or back to them. (i.e. cash a bad check, pay them real money with it, and then it bounces are you are out that money).

That's a good one. Usually the attachment will install a script so that malware can hijack your email or other parts of your computer without you being able to tell (other than possibly your real-time anti-virus or malware detector catching it). Nice catch not open an attachment!

I've read that many banks have upgraded scanners that don't require magnetic ink, and they will process checks that don't have it. Other banks absolutely won't.
